We went to McDonald’s in the Great Victoria Mall and it was packed. The prices were about the same, however, in British pounds. That means a small soda is £1 which is $1.60 to us. They have kid's meals with toys but no free top-offs (refills). The large coke is smaller than in the USA and is in a paper, not plastic, cup.
A group of five 14 year olds sat next to us. They were all excited and loud and bundles of 14 year old energy. They spoke very quickly and the only words I could make out were the oft repeated “foo king”. The one girl screamed so loud that if the cups had been glass rather than paper they would have been shattering all over the seating area. At one point a woman who worked there came over and very sternly told them to keep it down, people are eating.
They were actually quite cute, full of red hair, freckles, or black hair with blue eyes, and the little red headed boy next to me kept apologizing for the language.
I asked the red headed boy if we were allowed to have free refills and he said no, we had to buy another. Then he said how much he liked my accent and asked where we were from. I told him the USA and he said, “Class”. It seems the word class is used a lot. I think it just means ‘cool’.
We got up to leave and all 5 of them said enthusiastic good byes to us.
